On December 10, the ACREC Communication Platform was opened in National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. It began with a public lecture by representatives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, and the Public Control Council under the NABU.
The event gathered more than 80 participants, among them students, civic activists, researchers, civil servants, and many others!
The lecture began with the speech of the Executive Director of ACREC Oksana Nesterenko, who congratulated the speakers and participants of the event and thanked all those present for their interest in the topic of anti-corruption in Ukraine.
Speaking about the communication direction of the ACREC think tank, she emphasized that the creation of such independent platforms for exchange of views is extremely important since such platforms allow constructive dialogue between different stakeholders and actors to achieve qualitative changes in the field of combating corruption in Ukraine.
The floor was then handed over to the head of the NABU Public Controlling Council Galina Yanchenko and a member of the RGC, a lawyer Zlata Symonenko, who spoke about the significance of the work of a civil body in the context of exercising control over the activities of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and strengthening communication with the society.
The key part of the event was the speeches of NABU detective Artem and the SAP prosecutor Oleksandr Snegiriov. The representatives of specialized anti-corruption authorities told about the peculiarities of the investigation and the tools used during the investigation.
Detective of NABU shared his work experience as well as interesting information about the competition for the NABU and the SAPO, and opportunities for talented youth in these bodies.
In turn, the SAPO Attorney Alexander Snegirev raised the issue of the interaction between the detective and the prosecutor and told what the prosecutors needed in order to carry out more effective anti-corruption activities in our country.
After the speeches, the public lecture turned into an entertaining discussion with the audience. The participants of the event asked questions regarding legal education, peculiarities of work of various anti-corruption institutions, sentences, and punishments, efficiency indicators in the activity of specialized anti-corruption bodies, etc.
ACREC Communication Platform is an independent platform for communication and exchange of ideas among activists, experts, academics and practitioners in the field of anti-corruption in Ukraine and abroad. The role of ACREC within the framework of the Platform is to initiate public discussions and mediate the process of interaction between various agents in the field of combating corruption in Ukraine.
Subsequent activities within the framework of the Communication Platform will take place in early 2019 and will focus on the role of business in the context of the implementation of anti-corruption reform in Ukraine, as well as the work of the National Agency of Ukraine on the Detection, Investigation and Asset Management of Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA).
