A lecture “Corruption and Cybercrime – Double Challenge for Investments” was held

A well-known U.S. expert in the field of combating corruption, professor Peter Henning delivered a lecture on “Corruption and cybercrimes – double challenge for investments”.

Professor Henning told the audience on the interconnection between the development of national economy and combating corruption or cybercrime.

Professor underlined that a corruption challenge in developing countries should be treated as the challenge for such countries, but also as the challenge for the United States. It is therefore that the United States passed the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act to be used as a tool for combating corruption in countries like Ukraine.

According to Peter Henning, compliance system could be an effective tool for attracting foreign investments to Ukraine.

The students also learned about four major corruption areas (mining, construction, transportation, as well as information and communication) identified in the course of research.

Results of the Source: The OECD Foreign Bribery Report 2014 research showed that intermediaries (agents, distributors and brokers) were the most widely used in corruption schemes. The affiliates, local consulting companies, offshore companies, or companies established by officials were used less often. The last place goes to management of corporations.

In the end of the lecture, professor Henning presented his book “The Prosecution and Defense of Public Corruption” to the ACREC library.

The lecture of professor Peter Henning was organized by the Anti-Corruption Research and Education Center (ACREC) of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in partnership with the American Library of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
