Anti-Corruption Interdisciplinary Studies: Certificate Program

 The certification program is aimed for training experts in the field of combating corruption. The comprehensive interdisciplinary program focuses on studying corruption as a social and legal phenomenon, its impact on the development of a state, the most effective ways of preventing and combating corruption, and laundering of illicit funds.

As part of the course programs, the students will learn about the socio-legal nature of corruption, its notion and classification as well as reasons and methods of corruption acts. Additional information will be provided on the peculiarities and tools for combating major political, administrative and domestic corruption.

Special attention of the training courses is devoted to money laundering and the tools to prevent it, including the  financial monitoring and capabilities of the Financial Action Task Force on Money-laundering (FATF), financial intelligence, etc. The curriculum includes seminars and workshops on journalistic investigations and advocacy strategies in the field of combating corruption as well as the study of criminal procedural aspects of combating corruption and money laundering. 

The curriculum includes practical training courses:

  1. Corruption, Public Policy and Society;
  2. Legal Framework and Institutional Mechanisms for Preventing Corruption;
  3. Methodology for conducting research on combating corruption;
  4. Search and Content Analysis of Information from Public and Private Databases;
  5. Anti-Corruption Compliance;
  6. Investigating Corrupt Practices;
  7. Preventing Corruption in Parties and Elections: Experience of the EU Member-Countries

 

N.B.: To receive a certificate, the student has to take at least 4 obligatory and 1 elective course. The student may enroll for all the courses. 

Obligatory subjects:

  1. Corruption, National Policy and Society;

  2. Legal Framework and Institutional Mechanisms for Preventing Corruption;

  3. Methodology for conducting research on combating corruption;

  4. Search and Content Analysis of Information from Public and Private Databases.

Elective subject:

1. Investigating Corrupt Practices

2. Anti-corruption Compliance

Program starts: 14 September 2017

Program duration: Two semesters

First semester (starts on September 14, 2017):

1. Legal Framework and Institutional Mechanisms for Preventing and Combating Corruption / September-October/

2. Corruption, Public Policy and Society / September-October/

3. Investigating Corrupt Practices / November-December/

4. Anti-corruption Compliance / November-December/

Second semester (starts on January 15, 2018):

  1. Methodology for conducting research on combating corruption;

  2. Search and content analysis of information from public and private databases;

  3. Preventing corruption in parties and elections: experience of the EU member-countries;

 

Language: Ukrainian-English

Place: National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, Kyiv, Ukraine.

Timetable: Twice a week, from 18.00 to 20.50 (Thursday, Friday), sometimes on Saturdays from 9.30 to 12.20.

Participants must attend all classes. Any participant who attend less than 80% of classes shall be dismissed

Target audience:

The certification program “Anti-Corruption Interdisciplinary Studios” may be useful for representatives of anti-corruption agencies and civil society organizations, assistants to MPs, experts from the Council of public expertise at the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Corruption Prevention and Counteraction, Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, National Agency on Corruption Prevention, operatives of other law enforcement and regulatory authorities, agencies for combating corruption, officials of the executive authorities and local bodies, civil society activists, journalists, professors of higher educational institutions willing to develop their competence in this field, lawyers of private companies, as well as graduate students planning to start a scientific research in the field of corruption.

Training cost: The program is free of charge for 20 students to be selected on the basis of competitive selection.
